At least eleven people have died, including a child, and another 13 have been injured by the explosion last night of a liquefied gas tank that has destroyed a three-story building in the Iraqi city of Suleimaniya, in the northeast of the country. , according to the latest balance provided this Friday by the provincial Department of Health and collected by the official Iraqi news agency, INA.
According to the first investigations, the gas tank that exploded in the Kazui neighborhood was located on the roof. The detonation caused the immediate collapse of the upper floor and set off a chain reaction that swept away the two lower houses.
At the moment there are at least six people trapped in the rubble, according to emergency sources to the Kurdish news agency Rudaw. In one of the houses, according to media witnesses, there were about thirty people celebrating a party.
The rescue teams have been searching through the remains of the buildings all night and the rescue tasks will continue, at least, throughout this Friday.
The governor of the province, Haval abu Bakr, has declared an official 24-hour mourning this Friday in memory of the victims of the explosion.
