Pedro Sanchez received support from progressive leaders

Leaders of the left and the center-left of several countries demonstrated in support of the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, in a statement released days before the national elections in which at least the immediate future of the leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) is at stake.

The text states that the alliances in some regions between the Popular Party (PP) and Vox should especially concern “workers, for equality between women and men, LGBT rights, children, the ecological transition, education, quality universal public health, the sustainability of social security and decent work “.

The election was brought forward when, at the end of May, Sanchez dissolved Parliament due to the defeat of his alliance against the conservatives in the regional elections.

The manifesto of support is signed by the presidents of Brazil and Argentina, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Alberto Fernandez, respectively; Elly Schlein, secretary of the Democratic Party (PD) of Italy; the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa; German Chancellor Olaf Scholz; the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen; and Robert Abela, Prime Minister of Malta.

In addition, they subscribe to referents of progressive forces in Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.

“The Government of Pedro Sanchez has shown that it is possible to promote economic growth and job creation without weakening social welfare, or sacrificing the rights of the working class and the protection of the environment,” highlights the manifesto.

The text also affirms that, in this international scenario, the moment requires “urgent actions, such as the fight against climate change, the defense of civil rights and liberties, the fight against poverty and the advancement of feminism.”

“PP and Vox are political forces that not only do not work in favor of these programs, but also want to reverse them”concludes the document, reported by the ANSA news agency.
