The Vice Minister of Transport of Peru, Luis Cesar Rivera Perez, has been sentenced to six years in prison for having benefited companies through irregular contracts when he was the central manager of the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac).

The Prosecutor’s Office has shown before the Justice that Rivera Perez, an employee of the Ministry of Transport since the beginning of June, committed the crime of negotiating incompatible with two security companies for the award of contracts at the Juan Velazco Astete airport and the Acopia radar station Big of Cusco.

In addition to six years in prison, the Justice also sentenced Rivera Perez to six years of disqualification, 180 days of fine and an economic fine of more than 1.25 million Peruvian soles (about 320,000 euros), which must be paid along with the rest of the condemned.

However, the sentence has been suspended until the appeal filed in second instance by the vice minister is resolved. Along with Rivera Perez, senior officials at the airport have also been found guilty, according to RPP.

According to judicial inquiries, the payment to the security companies amounted to more than 1.76 million soles (more than 450,000 euros), an amount that was also divided to avoid having to pay taxes.

Later, the deputy minister launched a publication on his Twitter social network profile where he took the opportunity to defend his innocence and denounce that “a great injustice has been committed” against him. “I am innocent in the eyes of God and I will not rest until the justice of men recognizes my innocence”, concluded the Deputy Minister of Transport.
