Zelensky asks British Parliament for fighter jets

Volodímir Zelenski was received this Wednesday by the British Parliament with all honors. Members of the two chambers, gathered in Westminster Hall, gave the Ukrainian president a standing ovation, on his second trip abroad since the war began.

In his speech, Zelensky thanked London for its support over the past year, but called for it to go a step further, agreeing to supply Ukraine with fighter jets to stop Russia.

“I trust this symbol will help us for our next coalition, the coalition of planes. I ask you and the world, with simple but most important words: fighter planes for Ukraine, wings for freedom”said.

Sunak promises training for Ukrainian pilots

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has opened the door to the delivery of these planes by promising Zelensky training so that Ukrainian pilots can fly sophisticated combat aircraft that meet NATO standards. According to Sunak, the goal is for Ukraine “to be able to defend its airspace.”

The Ukrainian president was also received by King Carlos III.

The next leg of this trip, Zelensky’s second abroad since the war began, will be a European Union summit on Thursday where he will again ask for more weapons and faster for his country.
