The President of Ukraine, Volodmir Zelensky, has once again made Russia ugly last night’s attack on the Odessa cathedral and recalled that the Orthodox temple was already “looted and destroyed” in 1936 “by the Bolsheviks”, in reference to the decision to demolish it by the authorities of the Soviet Union, in which both Russia and Ukraine were then integrated.

“Last night a Russian missile, a Kh-22, an anti-ship missile, hit the altar of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Odessa, one of the most precious cathedrals in Ukraine. In 1936 it was already looted and destroyed by the Bolsheviks. In independent Ukraine, the capital was rebuilt and again terrorists are trying to destroy it,” Zelensky said in his daily evening speech.

According to Zelensky, a total of 19 projectiles were launched into Ukraine and they were of different types, “specifically designed to be more difficult to shoot down and to cause more destruction.” Among them is the one that hit the Cathedral of Christ the Savior or Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Odesa.

These projectiles have caused the death of one person and injured 20 others, including four minors aged 11, 12 and two of them 17 years old, the Ukrainian president highlighted.

Zelenski has also highlighted the condemnation of numerous international leaders, whom he has thanked for their position. “People all over the world should not get used to terrorist attacks. The target of all these missiles is not just cities, towns or people, but their target is humanity and the foundations of European culture as a whole,” he argued.

A total of fifty buildings have been damaged last night, 25 of them were architectural monuments in the historic center of the city, Zelenski pointed out. “World heritage protected by UNESCO. The building of the Greek Consulate has also been damaged and it is the second consular institution in Odessa to suffer from Russian terrorism. Three days ago the building of the Chinese Consulate was damaged in another attack,” he stressed.

Zelenski has described the Russian attitude as a “global threat”. “They destroy cities, they destroy culture, they destroy ports that are essential for world food security. There have never been terrorists like this who have been able to defeat the world. These crazy people from the Kremlin will not succeed either”, he has stressed.
