VIDEO : Iceland | A volcano erupts and the authorities create a security perimeter

ORA volcano located to the southwest of the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, has erupted for the third time in the last three years and the authorities have created a security zone although they assure that at the moment there is no damage to infrastructure.

It’s about the volcano fagradalsfjalllocated on the Reykjanes peninsula, forty kilometers from the capital, which began spewing lava late on Monday, and the Icelandic government has indicated that it has not affected air traffic for the moment.

The Icelandic President Guðni Th. Johannessonstated in Twitter that “civil defense has closed a large area temporarily due to volcanic gases. For the moment we watch the spectacle from a safe distance, in awe of Mother Nature.”

The same volcano, which sits next to Mount Litli-Hrutur, erupted in the past two years, spewing lava flows across the surface. In 2021 it remained active for several months.

On this occasion, the eruption has so far occurred as an outbreak of lava from a fissure, a type of phenomenon that experts understand does not usually cause large explosions or columns of ash.
