The Lehendakari, Inigo Urkullu, has trusted that Mercedes will rule in September on the investment of 1,200 million euros in the Vitoria factory and attend “an announcement that will guarantee the durability of the plant for about 20 years “.

The German multinational conditioned the investment to the signing, by the workers, of an agreement, which was approved on July 12, valid until 2026.

Precisely, the Mercedes Benz plant in Vitoria resumed its industrial activity this past Monday after the holiday break, with the new collective agreement in force.

In an interview with Radio Euskadi, collected by Europa Press, the Lehendakari hoped “that this coming September we will be able to experience the conclusion, by the Mercedes Benz group and, above all, by the segment sector of vans, which is what affects Vitoria-Gasteiz”.

After his visit to the plant in Stuttgart, Germany, at the beginning of July, Urkullu believes that “the foundations are very solid for the expansion of the Mercedes Benz plant in Vitoria”.

In addition, he recalled that, in June, the Alava Provincial Council and the Basque Government made a commitment to “participate with Mercedes in the Advanced Manufacturing Center”. “We are going to fulfill it as an element of institutional commitment for what the future of Mercedes Benz Vitoria-Gasteiz may be”, he pointed out.

For this reason, he has said that he trusts that it will be possible to “attend an announcement that will suppose the guarantee of durability of the plant for about 20 years”. “We are talking about the Mercedes Benz Vitoria-Gasteiz plant, about 5,000 direct workers, but also about 600 companies that live around the reality of the factory and about 30,000 indirect workers,” he explained.
