The Russian offensive in the city of Bakhmut puts the Ukrainian Army under pressure. President Volodímir Zelenski has decided to send more troops to this strategic location after acknowledging that the fighting has intensified. There, the fight is street by street.
“Unfortunately, every day we lose someone. There is not a single day where we do not have to transport the bodies of our comrades. We spend all our resources to send them home, because they gave their lives to the cause, as well as the wounded, who have to be given medical help”, explains a Ukrainian soldier who goes by the pseudonym “Fox”.
In recent days, the Russian forces have changed their strategy. Now they focus on surrounding and cutting off Bakhmut instead of assaulting her directly.
Although Zelenski has pointed out that the situation is difficult in the city, he has assured that the enemy’s casualties are numerous. Despite the danger, Ukrainian soldiers are brave.
“I am optimistic. Bakhmut, Crimea, everything will be ours. Just give us something to shoot with and show us where,” said another soldier.
For several months now, Russian troops and mercenaries from the private military company “Wagner” – close to Russian President Vladimir Putin – have been continuously assaulting Bakhmut and there is currently street by street fighting for control of the area.
