Two Europeanists will compete for the presidency of Montenegro

Two Europeanists will compete for the presidency of Montenegro. The current head of state, Milo Djukanovic, and the economist Jakov Milatovic, were the most voted in the elections held on Sunday in the Balkan country. Some 540,000 citizens were called to the polls. The elections have been held within the framework of a deep political crisis and, according to analysts, show the strength of the parties of the candidates in the face of the anticipated legislative elections.

“There is a serious lead compared to the other candidate I will be running against in the runoff, but this is not just cause for satisfaction and optimism, but also a clear recognition of certain reserves of voter support that were not activated in the first round”, assured Milo Đukanović, Candidate of the Democratic Party of Socialists and current president of Montenegro.

For his part, Jakov Milatović, candidate of the Movement Europe Now! considers that “this is a joint victory of those who were discriminated against in the previous thirty years, whose children left Montenegro, who had no justice, who were poor. This is a joint victory of a beautiful, better, fairer, more equal Montenegro “.

Political instability has caused the fall of two governments since 2020 and the current one is on an interim basis until the legislative elections on June 11. Before, on April 2, Dukanovic and Milatovic will compete for the presidency of a NATO member country and a candidate to enter the European Union.
