Turkey accuses Greece of trying to disrupt a NATO air exercise

The Turkish Defense Ministry on Saturday accused Greek warplanes of trying to intercept a NATO tactical exercise over the Aegean Sea but their efforts failed thanks to the response of the Turkish Air Force.

Turkish and NATO planes were carrying out the ‘Nexus Ace’ drill when the Greek force tried to obstruct the aircraft, according to a statement collected by the Turkish newspaper ‘Daily Sabah’.

The incident, on which Greece has not ruled, is one more episode in the territorial disputes in which Greece and Turkey have been embroiled for years and which have now increased with the discovery of disputed underwater gas fields.

These clashes also result in constant interceptions of air patrols from both countries, generally around the Greek islands that are off the coast of Turkey.
