By reselling all its Western studios and licenses to Embracer Group in May 2022 for the modest sum of 300 million dollars, Square Enix let slip the Tomb Raider license, undoubtedly the most prestigious which was in the bride’s basket. If we know that Crystal Dynamics is working on a new episode, we learn that the studio will have the help of another giant, that of Amazon Games. The publisher will indeed position itself as a publisher and provide the necessary funds so that the production takes place in the best possible conditions. It’s a win-win collaboration for both companies, since Amazon Games is still looking for its AAA which could make it emerge among the big players in video games. An attempt was made in 2021 with the MMO New World, but the blast quickly subsided, sending the game into video game limbo. This new episode of Tomb Raider, probably full next gen’, will be based on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 and should include all the ingredients that make this license a strong brand with players. However, he will be patient before seeing this new iteration land, as development has only just begun.
