This is all that changes for you in April: the 2023 income campaign begins, the second part of the pension reform enters into force and Easter is celebrated

The month of April arrives with important changes in different areas: taxes, pensions or politics will play an important role in this start of spring.

One of the key appointments in April is the 2023 income campaign. Taxpayers can already file their declaration as of the 11th, and although the process extends until June, it is best to do it as soon as possible.

But this is not the only thing to take into account: the second part of the pension reform comes into force in April, and it will affect you even if you are not retired.

Politics also comes with news: Yolanda Díaz will present her candidacy with Sumar, and this could generate friction with Podemos.

Finally, Don’t lose sight of Easter. This month there are 2 holidays that you can enjoy watching the processions or with any other plan.

You can file the income statement

The income statement begins on April 11 and ends on June 30. It is best that you present it as soon as possible to avoid problems and save money thanks to deductions.

Some of the most important novelties of the 2023 income are the reduction of the contribution to pension plans, that goes from 2,000 to 1,500 eurosthe extension of the deduction for maternity, from which mothers who do not carry out professional activity will benefit, or the reductions in personal income tax in some autonomous communities so that taxpayers can save.

In addition, the Treasury has limited the compensation of capital losses in cryptocurrency operations, so you may not be able to save money in this concept.

You must take into account the income thresholds that require filing the income statement in 2023.

In the event that you had a single payer in 2022, The minimum amount in work income is 22,000 euros.

If you have had 2 or more payers, the minimum amount is 15,000 euros, as long as the sum of the second and successive payers is a total of 1,500 euros. This has changed compared to last year, since the threshold was 14,000 euros.

How to deduct your rent in the 2023 income statement: these are the requirements for tenants and owners

Submitting the income statement is always recommended even if you are not obliged, since you can access deductions and save on paying taxes.

In order for the income to return to you, the IRPF withholdings must be correctly applied, otherwise you will have to settle accounts with the Treasury.

The second part of the pension reform enters into force

Pensioners using the computer

The second part of the pension reform enters into force on April 1.

The most important changes are the increase in minimum contributory pensions, the new dual model to determine the amount of your pension or the regularization of the coverage of contribution gaps.

The minimum contributory pensions will rise progressively between 2024 and 2027. In 2027 the minimum contributory pension is 16,500 euros per year22% more than now.

Regarding the change in the calculation of the pension, you will have 3 options to obtain the regulatory base:

  • Last 25 years listed: Social Security chooses the last 300 months of the contribution base and divides them by 350, since the contribution bases are annual and are spread over 12 months.
  • Last 29 years listed: Social Security takes the last 348 months and divides them by 406.
  • Last 29 years of contributions, removing the 2 worst: Social Security keeps the 324 months with the best contributions and divides by 378.

This means that you will be able to discard the 2 worst years of contribution, something that will come in handy if you have had a parenthesis or contribution gaps.

The rise in the Intergenerational Equity Mechanism (MEI) is also important, which will increase from 0.6% to 1.2% between now and 2029, which translates into an increase of one tenth each year.

The first days of Holy Week will be good in the weather, but from the second part there could be rains in some regions. We will have to wait to know for sure what is going to happen, because the weather in spring is changeable.
