The war in your pocket: how we notice in Spain the price of the war

Ukraine: a year of war

This is the story of Juan, a random citizen who on February 24 watched on television how a war broke out far away from Spain. Little by little he would realize how that conflict was going to be very expensive for him.

Juan, the Spaniard who has suffered firsthand, like all of us, the effects of war

If a year ago someone thought that the war was only going to affect the Ukrainians, it would take very little time for them to realize their mistake. He has hit us, and a lot, where it hurts the most: in our pockets. John knows wellthe protagonist of the video that heads this report, who suffers firsthand, like all of us, the main economic effects of twelve months of conflict.

Before the Russian invasion we filled the tank with gasoline at 1.48 euros per liter. Months later it reached 2.15. The butane cylinder has also skyrocketed, which went from 17.75 euros to 19.55. Meanwhile, the average electricity bill rose from 79.11 euros to 105.48: 25 euros more.

In the supermarket, products such as bread, milk or oil have multiplied their price. The latter is one of the most expensive: the liter went from 1.46 euros to 3.18. Not even the hotel industry has served as a refuge for us: goods such as beer also cost more than a year ago. Even home renovations have been affected.

This is John’s storywhich is actually the story of all of us and how our economy has suffered during the first year of war.
