The president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, has traveled this Sunday to the US city of New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly.

Castillo has finally been able to travel to New York to participate in the event after receiving authorization from the Peruvian Parliament, which rejected the request by the Prosecutor’s Office to prevent the president from leaving the country.

The president has finally obtained permission to travel to the United States until next Thursday, September 22, to participate in the UN General Assembly and hold meetings with international leaders, including the organization’s secretary general, Antonio Guterres.

The president has traveled accompanied by a delegation made up of his wife, Lilia Paredes; the Foreign Minister, Cesar Landa; the one of Economy, Kurt Burneo; Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sanchez; and Education, Rosendo Serna.

The Prosecutor’s Office had requested that Castillo be prevented from leaving in relation to the investigations that the Public Ministry has opened against the president for alleged corruption.

In fact, Castillo was no longer able to travel to Colombia in early August to attend the inauguration of Gustavo Petro as president of the country.
