The balance of victims of an attack against a military base in Cauca has risen to six soldiers, also leaving eight injured, including a civilian.

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has arrived on Tuesday in the rural area of Cauca where they have attacked the military, where he has convened an Extraordinary Security Council to review the public order situation. “Peace is the supreme good of the nation”, he has indicated.

Petro accused this Tuesday the ‘Jaime Martinez’ column of the dissidents of the missing FARC guerrilla of the ambush that has ended the lives of six soldiers and has left another eight wounded in the municipality of Buenos Aires (southwest).

The attack took place in the Munchique village, where there is evidence that this column of FARC dissidents operates. The soldiers were surprised by the launch of grenades and improvised explosives, known as tatucos, reports the RCN radio station.

This is the second attack against agents of the security forces in a few days in the region. Last weekend a non-commissioned officer and two soldiers died in clashes.

Questioned about the possibility of establishing a dialogue with this armed organization, Petro remarked that the only process that currently exists in this sense is the one being carried out with the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN), not the same with the dissidents of the FARC, with which only “has been discussed about a possibility”.
