Giant has announced the Revolt X range, a new line of gravel bikes featuring a short-travel 40mm suspension fork designed for more aggressive riding.
The Revolt X is an addition to Giant’s Revolt line of gravel bikes. The Revolt Advanced Pro 0 wins our coveted bike of 2022.
We first got a glimpse of the Revolt X back in January of this year when it was leaked on various retail sites.
An official release confirms that Giant will offer an aluminum version of the Advanced Pro Carbon Fiber Revolt X and Gravel Bike.
The bike has a rotating chip in the rear dropout to adjust the geometry to your preferences, a feature that is inherited from the rigid frame suspension.
Prices start at £4,499 / $4,800 / €4,600 / AU$6,199 for the Advanced Pro 2 or £2,999 for the aluminum-framed Revolt X 1.
In the UK, carbon models will be available in April and the aluminum Revolt X in May. The aluminum Revolt X 1 is only available in the UK and Canada.
Geometry optimized for suspension
Giant Revolt X bikes use gravel bike suspension forks from RockShox and Fox.
The forks offer 40mm of suspension travel and are featured on other gravel bikes like the Berria Bellator Allroad and the Niner MCR9 RTO.
The aluminum Revolt X1 and Revolt X Advanced Pro 2 use RockShox Rudy forks, while the Advanced Pro 1 features a Rudy Ultimate XPLR fork.
The higher-end Advanced Pro features the Fox 32 Float AX Performance Elite.
Giant says the geometry of the Revolt X is optimized for suspension.
The Revolt X Advanced Pro has a slightly longer reach than the rigid frame Revolt and less lockdown reduction. Giant says this is for maximum control.

However, the changes are relatively minor. The reach of the Revolt X Advanced Pro has been increased by 2mm to 389mm at midrange. Bottom bracket drop is now 68 or 69mm, depending on flip-chip settings, versus 80 or 81mm on the hardtail.
The head tube lengths have also been shortened to account for the extra length of the suspension fork. A medium size frame has a 115mm head tube length, which is 150mm on a stiffer bike.
The chainstay length and wheelbase remain unchanged.
Giant has kept the same geometry numbers on the carbon and aluminum Revolt X bikes, but has lowered the standout height of the aluminum version by 5mm.
legal details

Giant says the Revolt X frame is designed to strike the perfect balance between comfort and stiffness.
Giant uses their advanced composite for carbon frames. The front triangle is assembled and molded in one continuous piece in a proprietary manufacturing process known as modified monocoque construction, which the brand says helps create a high stiffness-to-weight ratio.
The top tube slopes down. Giant says this makes the front and rear triangles smaller to create a lighter, stiffer bike. The brand also claims that the sloping tube makes it easier for riders to find the perfect fit.

The upper and lower tubes are enlarged. The downtube has a square and rectangular profile, which Giant says promotes superior stiffness and torsional stiffness.
The oversized theme continues to the bottom bracket junction on the Revolt X carbon, which features a BB86 press fit.
The aluminum Revolt X uses a 68mm threaded bottom bracket standard.
The Revolt X uses Giant’s overdrive headset system, with 1 ⅛ on top and 1 ¼ on the bottom of the headset bearing.

The main triangle has room for two bottle cages and the down tube has three bumps if you want to adjust the position. There are also mounting points for a bento box at the bottom of the down tube and at the top of the top tube.
The Advanced Pro series is only compatible with 1x drivetrains. However, the aluminum Giant Revolt X can accept a front trailer, so you can run the bike with a 2x drivetrain.
The frame offers three seatpost options. Depending on frame size, bikes ship with a dropper post that adjusts the height by 75 or 100mm. If you’re more flexible, you can use Giant’s proprietary D-Fuse seatpost or opt for a 30.9mm round post. If you use the latter, you will need an adapter.
long and short positions

Like its hardtail sister, the Revolt X features a flip chip in the rear dropout.
The flip chip offers two levels. The ‘short stance’ shortens the wheelbase and chainstay length, which is said to lead to a shorter ride. The ‘Long Stance’ extends the wheelbase for increased stability.
To adjust the flip chip, loosen the dropout mounting bolts and set the hardware to the desired configuration.
The Revolt X Advance can fit gravel bike tires up to 700x53mm wide in the ‘long position’ or 700x42mm in the ‘short position’.
