The monks of the Monastery of the Caves refuse to evict him

The monks of the Monastery of the Caves, in kyiv, refuse to evict him despite the government order.

The Ukrainian government accuses them of supporting Moscow and of maintaining ties with the Russian Orthodox Church, and ordered them to leave the compound on Wednesday.

The monks, whose church is subordinated to the Moscow Patriarchate, denounce, for their part, religious persecution.

The abbot of the monastery, the metropolitan Pavlo, addressed his faithful like this.

“They have no right to kick us out. Yesterday we received a letter from the UN saying we can stay in the monastery until the trial is over, until the court makes a decision. If we win, we win, and if they win, we will appeal.”

priests arrested

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, Kiev security forces have detained several priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church canonically subordinate to Moscow on charges of supporting the Russian Army from the pulpits, and providing information to the enemy.

kyiv also claims to have found pro-Kremlin propaganda materials and Russian passports in several raids on Kremlin churches.

Churches War

Critics of this congregation demand that they go over to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Created in 2018, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was recognized a year later as the country’s autocephalous church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, thus fulfilling the aspirations of millions of Ukrainians to have their own national church fully independent from Moscow.
