The Italian authorities increase the death toll from the storm on the island of Ischia to seven

Italian authorities reported late on Sunday that the death toll from a landslide on the island of Ischia had risen to seven, including a baby.

Among the deceased, in addition to the newborn baby, is a 28-year-old Bulgarian man, a 6-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy, a 32-year-old man and two women aged 30 and 31.

Search and rescue services continue to search for five people who are still missing, including three belonging to the same family.

Likewise, the number of displaced people has increased, around 230 people, who have been assigned alternative housing, reported the prefect of Naples, Claudio Palomba, as reported by the AdnKronos agency.

Parallel to the rescue activity, the regional manager of the Campaign Fire Brigade, Emanuele Franculli, explained that they are collecting data to create a digital map that allows comparing the affected area before and after the event.

“These data will allow the City Council and Civil Protection to take the corresponding measures also regarding the future accommodation of the occupants of these homes,” explained Franculli.

The Italian authorities have decreed a state of emergency for Ischia, as well as an endowment of two million euros to help the affected region, where more than 160 people have been displaced from their homes.
