The Israeli security forces carried out a new search on Tuesday at the residence of the Palestinian governor of Jerusalem, Adnan Ghaiz, who has been under indefinite house arrest since the beginning of August.

According to information collected by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the Israel Police carried out the raid early in the day at Ghaiz’s residence, located in the Siluan neighborhood, in East Jerusalem, without any details being released for now.

Ghaiz has been detained more than 30 times since he took up his duties as Palestinian governor of Jerusalem in August 2018, amid Israel’s ban on Palestinian Authority activities in the city, which it considers the “indivisible capital.” from the country.

The Palestinian authorities have stressed on multiple occasions that a peace agreement would require the creation of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital. The city’s status is linked to negotiations, according to the international community, which does not recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.

Tensions have increased in recent months in the West Bank after the latest attacks against Israelis, which have left more than 20 dead. In addition, Israeli forces have killed more than 200 Palestinians so far this year, including 144 in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, more than 50 in the Gaza Strip and four on Israeli soil.
