The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has granted this Thursday precautionary measures in favor of Cuban opponent Luis Robles, who is currently “deprived of liberty in a serious and urgent situation of risk of irreparable damage to his rights in Cuba.”

In its recent resolution, the IACHR has urged the Cuban authorities to adopt the necessary measures to guarantee the protection of the rights to life, personal integrity, and health of Robles, while ensuring that the conditions of his detention comply with with international standards.

Thus, the agency considers it necessary to provide medical assistance to Robles based on what the specialists prescribe; allow regular visits from their relatives; as well as adopt measures against the threats, harassment, intimidation and acts of violence against Robles for denouncing his situation.

Robles, sentenced to five years in prison for the crime of “enemy propaganda” and “disobedience”, is serving a sentence in the Combinado Este Prison, in the Cuban capital, Havana, according to the organization Prisoners Defenders in a statement.

“(The IACHR) It is the second institution of the international system for the protection of Human Rights to rule on a verdict in favor of this 29-year-old (Robles), whose only crime, as could be seen in several video recordings, was ask for the freedom of Denis Solis and ask that there be no more repression”, reported Prisoners Defenders.
