The Government delegate in the Basque Country, Denis Itxaso, has assured that “you have to have little emotional intelligence in order not to be on the side of the vulnerable” in a crisis situation like the current one, referring to the statements made by the CEO of Repsol, Josu Jon Imaz, by assuring that the tax on energy companies “does not go against the rich, but against business activity”.

In an interview granted to the SER chain collected by Europa Press, Itxaso highlighted that the measures being adopted by the Government of Pedro Sanchez, such as the tax on energy companies, are “similar to those of other European governments”.

“You have to have little emotional intelligence to avoid being on the side of the most vulnerable people in situations like this. I believe that a crisis of an energy nature, of raw materials, of rising cost of living and runaway inflation, also deserves extraordinary measures” , has added.

In this sense, he stressed that “an effort is being requested from those companies and those sectors that, in some way, have indirectly benefited from the rise in these prices”. “This is understood by everyone and, fortunately, in Europe as a whole there are many governments, including the European Commission itself, that not only accept, but also applaud and promote this type of measure,” he said.

For this reason, he has demanded “social sensitivity to deal with this situation in which the most vulnerable people and the working middle class as a whole need governments that are complicit with their interests to move them forward”.
