The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sanchez, has ruled out the proposal to extend the free Renfe bonds beyond December 31, which has been estimated at more than 900,000 since the measure was launched and till the date.
This was confirmed by the minister during a meeting in which she took stock of the actions carried out in recent months to promote the release of passengers by rail, specifically on the Chamartin-Atocha tunnel connection and the section to Torrejon de Velasco; and the start on September 13 of the Madrid-Alicante/Murcia high-speed services from the Madrid-Chamartin-Clara Campoamor station.
The minister was accompanied by the president of Adif and Adif AV, Maria Luisa Dominguez, as well as by the main executives of the passenger operators: the president of Renfe, Isaias Taboas; the president of Iryo, Carlos Bertomeu, and the general director of Ouigo Spain, Helène Valenzuela.
Although Sanchez has affirmed that an extension of the measure is not contemplated, he has also indicated that during the coming months the Executive will study its evolution, as well as the 50% discounts in different travel modalities, with the aim of analyzing those measures of a structural nature that “invite and add more users to public transport”.
At this point, the minister has stressed that the Government will study what structural measures can be implemented, although she has not offered more details in this regard.
