The European Parliament will rule on the situation of Human Rights in Qatar, after the group of the Left has managed to introduce changes in the agenda to include a resolution on the case of the Gulf country, at the heart of the debate with the start of the soccer World Cup.

The vote to change the agenda of the plenary session and include a resolution has gone ahead with 181 votes in favour, 165 against and 32 abstentions and with the European People’s Party and the Group of Socialists and Democrats voting against it as a block.

“We demand the recognition of the complicity of European companies and the creation of compensation funds,” said the spokesperson for the Left in the European Parliament, Manon Aubry, who has taken the proposal forward after adding Liberals and Greens, in a vote at the beginning of the plenary session when not all the MEPs were in the chamber, which has facilitated the maneuver.

Before this last-minute change, a debate in the European Parliament on the situation of Human Rights in the context of the World Cup in Qatar was scheduled on the agenda, which is being held this Monday with the participation of the Health Commissioner, Stella Kyriakides. .
