The annual gaming event Summer Game Fest has announced that it will take place Thursday June 8, 2023, being held for the fourth consecutive year and, this time, in person, one week before the video game convention Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
The conference, organized by the also creator of The Game Awards, Geoff Keighleywill be held at the Los Angeles YouTube Theater and will have access to the general public since, according to the organization, the tickets will be on sale soon to fill the 6,000 seats in the theatre.
Keighley, who will present The Game Awards next week, explained that he they will share more details as the date approaches, although he has already shared that it will take place on June 8.
In this way, the Keighley summer event will take place a week before E3which has confirmed its dates from the June 13 to June 16, 2023returning from the hand of its new organizer ReedPop, after canceling its edition this year and celebrating the 2021 edition in digital format.
Sl Summer Game Fest arose after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, when Keighley, who was a partner at E3 in previous editions, ended up disassociating himself from the event and creating his own. However, as he has already commented on other occasions, the E3 is a renowned event and it is not a competition.
For this reason, Keighley does not give importance to the comparisons between the two events, at the same time that he emphasizes the commitment that they maintain from Summer Game Fest to doing something “really big” during the summer, working with the game companies.
“It’s about a time of year. People use the E3 brand because we’ve known it for 20 years, but for me It’s just video game news that happens in June,” Keighley opined in an interview for VideoGames.si.
