Strip | Israeli Airstrike Kills Senior Islamic Jihad Commander

The Israeli army reported that Ali Ghali, head of Islamic Jihad, was in hiding with two other members of the terrorist organization; however, security sources stated that the two companions were Ghali’s brother and nephew, and deny that they are part of Islamic Jihad.

A israeli air strike against an apartment in the Gaza Strip has killed Ali Ghali, a senior member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The attack happened on Thursday morning. There are already 25 Palestinians dead, and more than 60 wounded.

The Israeli army had reported that Ali Ghali was hiding in an apartment with two other members of the terrorist organization; however, security sources stated that the two companions were Ghali’s brother and nephew, and deny that they are part of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system had intercepted hundreds of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.

No hope of a ceasefire

The Secretary General of the UNAntonio Guterres, has expressed his “deep concern” about the violence and Warns Israel to Respect International Law; and also “condemns the indiscriminate firing of rockets from Gaza into Israel“.

Egypt tries to broker a ceasefire, but truce efforts have so far failed to bear fruit.

Israel’s military said schools would remain closed and restrictions on large gatherings in southern Israel would remain, at least until Friday. Residents were ordered to stay close to bomb shelters.
