Spotify already offers plenty of custom playlists, and now the company is giving users more control over generating those mixes. A platform based on mood, decade, and genre playlists, Spotify today is a feature that the company says integrates all of your custom playlists “in a playful way.”
In short, you can now ask Spotify to create an algorithmically generated mix for almost any mood or genre. To do this, go to Spotify’s search bar and type in the function you want the app to record for you, adding “mix” to the end. You can be very creative. I asked Spotify to create a Witch House playlist for me, followed by relaxing video game soundtracks. In both cases, Spotify complied and did a good job of curating the appropriate tracks. Sometimes you run into situations where Spotify doesn’t come up with the perfect match for the mix you want. For example, I asked him to create a “dubstep work mix” for a workout playlist.
Like the company’s other custom mixes, you can expect a mix of familiar songs with tracks you’ve never heard before in each playlist. Key compounds are available starting today for free and premium users searching in English.
