At least six Islamic State jihadists have died, three of them at the hands of a farmer who ended up succumbing to the shots of the jihadists, during an assault repelled this Saturday by the Army and the population against a town in the province of Saladin, in the center-north of the country.
The jihadists attacked a town in the Shirgat municipality around noon this Saturday, but they were repelled by the second battalion of the 91st Brigade of the Iraqi Army, with the help of civilians and Hashdi tribals.
“At least six Islamic State fighters died in the assault,” the Iraqi Army security media cell confirmed in a statement collected by the Rudaw agency.
Military spokesman Mohamed Sheikh, from the 91st brigade, confirmed that the farmer was the first to open fire on the jihadists when he saw them approaching the village.
The intervention of the Iraqi Army killed the other three jihadists, two of whom took their own lives.
