The head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, has responded to the expressions of Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard. The official, one of the candidates for Morena’s presidential candidacy, indicated that she will not enter into a debate with the also candidate, after he pointed out that Sheinbaum is “tender” for proposing that Ebrard be in his cabinet to win the elections in 2024. “The only thing that happens when we enter into a debate between us is that we give strength to the adversaries. I trust our party, I know that things will be done well. And I am not going to enter into a debate because I do not think it will help us, ”she said at a press conference.

With the cast of the crucifixion in the background, which is preparing for the traditional representation of Holy Week in Iztapalapa, Sheinbaum has assured that everyone has their way of giving statements and has stressed that “it is not a personal matter.” “The most important thing is the debate on national projects, not the debate on issues that I consider to be minor,” she indicated.

Almost 24 hours earlier, the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, asked the head of government of Mexico City to be humble and wait for the results of the presidential elections, which will take place in 2024, after being questioned about what What do you think about joining Sheinbaum’s cabinet? “How cute, isn’t it? What I would say is that I would love for him to also be with me in a position in the cabinet that I am going to lead. I think we need a little humility, people still don’t vote. Let’s wait for the people to decide and see what happens,” said the foreign minister.

Ebrard and Sheinbaum are the strongest candidates for Morena’s candidacy to run for the presidency of Mexico next year, according to various surveys, and before the start of the candidate selection process, exchanges between the two have increased. The president of Morena, Mario Delgado, has said that next July the call will be issued to designate the candidate through a survey and has set two conditions for the applicants: put the project of the Fourth Transformationas they have called the movement headed by the current president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, and assume that the selection method will be the survey.

The Morenista leader has also explained that a first survey will be carried out between August and September, from which the finalists will emerge who will participate in a second survey that will define the candidate no later than December 2.

The method of choosing their candidates through a survey has been criticized by some Morena militants. Ricardo Monreal, president of the Senate Political Coordination Board, and another of the candidates for Morena’s presidential candidacy is one of those critics since he has indicated that the process is not transparent. Ebrard, for his part, has asked that debates be organized among the applicants before carrying out the survey and that it be carried out with a large sample of 20,000 to 30,000 people. The published surveys note for now the advantage for the head of Government of Mexico City, followed by Ebrard; in third place, Adan Augusto Lopez; and finally, Montreal.
