The 2023-2024 school year is about to begin. The return to the classroom begins with new textbooks and the program of phases, which means that the eyes are on the basic education of Mexican children. For 190 days, students will come to learn as much as possible about the subjects and study plans that correspond to them. The road traffic, the hustle and bustle in the morning and the forgotten cards that, as every year, are the daily bread in schools, will not wait.
At the end of June, the Ministry of Public Education announced the days that students must attend classes, as well as the period for delivery of tickets, continuous training workshops, vacations and pre-registration. This calendar applies to basic education, which includes preschools, primary and secondary students, both public and private.

Schoolchildren return to classrooms this Monday, August 28, after a five-week break. On the other hand, educators joined on August 21. That week they received an intensive continuing education workshop and their first school council meeting for this educational term. On August 24 and 25, sessions of the participatory school health committee and cleaning days in schools were also held.
Unlike previous school cycles, this time preschool, primary and secondary students start with a new study plan that is divided into different axes and educational phases. Instead of subjects, the students will divide their studies into different formative fields (languages; knowledge and scientific thought; ethics, nature and societies; of the human and the community) with interdisciplinary knowledge and the children must create projects linked to the school reality or community.
The educational phases will be
- Initial education: for children from 0 to 2 years 11 months
- Preschool education: first, second and third grade
- Primary education: first and second grade
- Third and fourth grade
- The fifth and sixth grades
- Three grades of secondary education

Technical advice meetings
As every year, on the last Friday of each month, teachers will meet to discuss and discuss the curriculum. This activity is known as the School Technical Council meeting and intensive workshops for continuous training.

Although they are included in the December holidays, January 25 and 1 are considered mandatory rest days. The next date is February 5, which is commemorated on the day of the Mexican constitution, and then on March 18, which is famous for being the Day of Oil Expropriation and will be linked to the birth of Benito Juarez, on the 21st. March. May 1, Labor Day, is a holiday for all Mexicans and on the 15th of that month, teachers will celebrate their day by resting.
Although in June and July there are no breaks for any historical date or celebration of the citizens, on July 16 the 2023-2024 school year ends to begin, again, with the summer holidays.
There will be two holiday periods. In December, the last days of the year, students should not attend classes from December 18 to January 8. Managers and teachers join earlier; On January 3, the former will begin with an intensive continuous training workshop and on the 4th and 5th, the teachers will also take it. The other cycle is taken during Holy Week, from March 25 to April 5.
