Putin has visited by car the most “memorial” places according to Russian reports, without specifying exactly when the visit took place. Putin also met with local residents in the city’s Nevskyi district.
During the tour that the president of Russia in its first trip to the Donbas, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnulin, has informed him of the progress of the construction and reconstruction works of Mariupol and its surroundings.
“In particular, it dealt with the construction of new housing units, social and educational centers, infrastructures and medical institutions”added the Kremlin press office, which did not specify the duration of the visit.
Shortly afterwards the Russian Presidency reported that putin met in Rostov-on-Don, in southern Russia, with the command of the military campaign in Ukraine.
“The head of state listened to the reports of the chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valeri Guerasimov, and other military chiefs”adds the press release.
When Moscow completely took the city in May, some 100,000 people remained out of 450,000 before the war. Many were trapped without food, water, heat or electricity. The incessant shelling left rows and rows of buildings vandalized or empty.
The visit was announced after Putin made a surprise trip to the peninsula this Saturday crimea on the ninth anniversary of its annexation by Russia.
The president visited the Korsun Art School and children’s center in Chersonese, outside the port of Sevastopol, the main base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
