The legal figure of exile sounds like a bygone era, but it is the one used by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega to expel 222 political prisoners from his country. Temporarily rendered stateless; that is, people whom no country recognizes as its citizens now have to find their place. Perhaps in the United States, where they were transferred by plane or, in Spain, which has offered them nationality. An interview with Carlos Salinas Maldonado, who covers Central America, and María Martín, who is in charge of Migrations from Spain.
