The elected president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has appointed Danilo Rueda, until now director of the Intercelestial Commission for Justice and Peace, as the future High Commissioner for Peace.

This has been confirmed in his profile on the social network Twitter by the next president of Colombia, where he has also highlighted that “a world power for life means building peace.”

As the Colombian press points out, Rueda will have to face the challenge of hypothetical peace talks with the guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN).

Precisely this weekend the head of the ELN, Eliecer Erlinto Chamorro, alias ‘Antonio Garcia’, has been open to resuming the peace talks once Petro takes office.

Peace negotiations with the ELN broke down in 2019 after the attack on the General Santander Police Cadet School, in which 23 students died and 100 more were injured.

Rueda’s appointment may be accompanied by controversy since the next High Commissioner for Peace was one of the people who accompanied Juan Fernando Petro, brother of the next president, to prisons in the country to hold meetings with prisoners and candidates for extradition. , according to ‘El Tiempo’.
