The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced on Monday that the United Kingdom has decided to stop requiring tourist visas from Colombian citizens who decide to visit the British country.

This was stated by the Colombian president in a message on the social network Twitter, in which he thanked the UK authorities for the decision.

“I thank the United Kingdom for its decision to remove the tourist visa requirement for Colombian visitors,” Petro said in his statement.

The British Embassy in Colombia was preparing to make the announcement at 7:00 a.m. (local time, 2:00 p.m. Spanish peninsular time) on Tuesday, but the Colombian president has anticipated the news, as reported by ‘El Espectador’.

So far, the details of the measure announced by the Colombian head of state have not been given, such as who would benefit and from when.

With this decision, Colombia becomes the first member country of the Andean Community (CAN) to which the tourist visa requirement to enter the United Kingdom is eliminated.
