A Palestinian was injured on Wednesday after being shot by Israeli security forces near the separation fence in the West Bank town of Anin, on the outskirts of Jenin, according to Palestinian security sources.
These sources have indicated that the man, who has not been identified, tried to cross the fence to reach his job in Israel, as reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA. The man has been hospitalized after being shot in the leg.
Hundreds of Palestinians try to cross the fence irregularly every day to get to their jobs without having to wait at Israeli checkpoints in the West Bank, which has led to various incidents in recent months.
The event took place hours before the arrival in Israel of US President Joe Biden, who thus begins a regional tour in which he will also make official visits to Palestine and Saudi Arabia.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas met last week in the West Bank city of Ramallah with Israeli Defense Minister Benjamin Gantz to coordinate security issues ahead of the US president’s visit.
