Nvidia cancels launch of GeForce RTX 4080 12GB graphics unit

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 – NVIDIA

Nvidia has announced that it is canceling the launch of its graphics card RTX 4080 12GBclaiming that it “does not have the correct name” and that it may cause confusion with the other drive with the same designation, 16 GB.

The company introduced the GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 graphics units at the end of September, which use the Nvidia Ada Lovelace core architecture, to increase their performance by up to four times in ray-traced video games.

So, Nvidia indicated that GeForce RTX GPUs would arrive in November, in two configurations: 16 GB from 1,469 euros, and 12 GB, from 1,099 euros.

However, the company has announced that finally the launch will not take place of the second model and that it has chosen to extend its availability on the market.

Nvidia has recognized that this change in strategy is due to the fact that “doesn’t have the right name” and has ensured that having two GPUs with the same name, regardless of their capacity, “is confusing”.

Despite this pause in the 12 GB model, the manufacturer believes that “the 16 GB RTX 4080 is incredible and is well on its way to delight gamers around the world,” according to a statement.

In this, he also recalled that this other unit will be launched on November 16 and has indicated that he hopes that the reception of the RTX 4080 model is “incredible” based on the one recorded with the RTX 4090.

Available since last October 12 with 24 GB of G6X memory, the GeForce RTX 4090 GPU It is priced from 1,959 euros and, according to Nvidiam, offers twice the speed and the same power as the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.
