New National Cinematheque of the Arts: tickets, schedules, billboard and location

The new Cineteca Nacional de las Artes has opened its doors to the south of the city on August 15, a date that coincides with the Day of Mexican Cinema. The cultural space will be dedicated to the exhibition of the best of national and international cinema in the rooms that once belonged to a multi-cinema complex operated by the private initiative at the National Center for the Arts (Cenart).

After a renovation that included improvements in the projection and sound equipment, the Cineteca Nacional de las Artes has published its first billboard with free functions and special projections in honor of the first actress Maria Rojo. The star of Mexican movies like Red Dawnby Jorge Fons, and Mary of my heartby Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, has also been recognized with a room that bears his name.

Rooms and amenities of the new Cineteca

The recently inaugurated Cineteca Nacional de las Artes has a capacity for 1,300 people and is made up of 12 exhibition halls, three of which are enabled to project films in 3D format. The venue has undergone a remodeling and makeover, as well as technical improvements to offer viewers a better view of the films shown.

Billboard from August 16 to 21

The new venue will function as an extension and new headquarters of the Cineteca Nacional, and its inauguration functions will last for a whole month, from August 15 to September 15. During the first week the entrance will be free for all the people who visit it, and the following three weeks the tickets will be available 2 for 1 by requesting them at the box office on the day of the event, according to a statement dated August 7. The films have been selected by the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (Imcine) and celebrate contemporary Mexican cinema with its diversity of voices and stories.

  • Friday the 18th: The other Tom, The task, Shipwreck, Home is somewhere else, Where the winds cross, Ndatu savi and Tragic Jungle.
  • Saturday 19: The Award, Noise, Shipwreck, Danzon, My No Place, Reasons of the Heart, Where the Winds Cross, Short Program, Ndatu savi, ColOZio and La revolt.
  • Sunday 20: The other Tom, The last wagon, Maria of my heart, Red dawn, Home is somewhere, The dance of 41, The reasons of the heart, Soundtrack, Courage, Tell me about yourself and Tragic jungle.
  • Monday 21: The commitment of the shadows, The attack, The task, Trigal, Prayer, Short film program and ColOZio.

Location of the new Cineteca

The Cineteca Nacional de las Artes is located within the facilities of the National Center for the Arts (Cenart), at Rio Churubusco #79. To get there by public transport, you must get off at the General Anaya station, on metro line 2, and then walk to the facilities of the venue.
