NATO believes there is no evidence that China supplies Russia with weapons

NATO applauds all peace initiatives, but the last word belongs to Ukraine. These have been the words of the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, while the leaders of China and Russia met in Moscow.

In a press conference, Stoltenberg has asked China not to support Russia’s war against Ukraine. “China’s peace proposal includes some positive aspects and elements that I support. For example, the importance of nuclear security, the protection of civilians and, not least, the importance of sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence And, of course, any peace solution for Ukraine must be based on these principles,” Stoltenberg has defended.

NATO has said there is no evidence that China is supplying Russia with lethal weapons. Stoltenberg however has warned China against such a move, in addition to lamenting the increasingly close relations between the two powers. “The meeting taking place in Moscow is part of the pattern we have seen in recent years, in which China and Russia are getting closer and closer. You have to remember that just a couple of weeks before the invasion, last month of In February, Presidents Xi and Putin met in Beijing, where they signed a joint declaration promising each other a partnership without limits”, recalled the Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance.

The Secretary General presented the NATO Annual Report for 2022 on Tuesday and stressed that last year defense spending increased by 2.2% in real terms.

Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that Finland’s accession process will be completed before the NATO summit in July, but that Sweden will probably have to wait for the Turkish elections.
