Nashville shooting | Joe Biden asks Congress to ban the use of assault weapons

The flags on the official buildings of the United States will fly at half mast until March 31 as a sign of respect for the victims of the school shooting this Monday in Nashville (Tennessee), in which three children and three adults were shot dead in a Christian private school.

The order, signed by US President Joe Biden, stipulates that the country’s flags in the White House, as well as in all public buildings in the country, in military ships and ports, and in embassies and consulates abroad, They will fly at half mast until sunset Friday.

The president also spoke by phone with Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Nashville Mayor John Cooper Monday night, the White House reported.

After finding out what happened, Biden stressed in a speech that “more” must be done to protect the country’s educational centers.

“We must do more to stop gun violence. We must do more to protect our schools so they don’t become prisons. I am asking Congress again to pass my gun ban,” he said at the start of a summit in Washington on women entrepreneurs.

Police have identified the attacker as Audrey Hale, a former student at the school.

Three minors and three adults died in the shooting, in which the alleged attacker, identified as a 28-year-old trans person, was killed by the Police. She was carrying two rifles and a pistol.

In a video released Monday night by the Nashville Police, the attacker can be seen driving to the school and entering shooting with one rifle slung over her shoulder and another dangling.

The Covenant school, where the attack took place, is a private center that serves students from preschool to sixth grade, that is, up to about 11 years old.

So far this year, there have been at least 30 reported incidents involving firearms in schools in the United States, which have left 8 dead and 23 injured, according to data from the organization Everytown for Gun Safety.
