Mexican passport 2023: requirements, how to request an appointment and updated prices

Any Mexican who wishes to travel abroad, regardless of the destination and regardless of the access requirements of each country, will need to have a valid passport issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) of the Government of Mexico. Contrary to what one might think about the processing process, the Government has simplified the steps for applicants. The passport, like the birth certificate or the voting card, is an official document proving nationality and identity within Mexico. And it is recognized by the member countries of the International Civil Aeronautics Organization (ICAO), airlines and Mexican and foreign authorities as a travel document.

To start the Mexican passport application process, it is necessary to make an appointment for personalized attention at one of the SRE offices in the country. The applicant must schedule this visit by calling 55 893 2427 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., or through the website https://citas.sre.gob.mx/. It is enough to create an access account with a personal email. Once the appointment is registered, it will be necessary to go to the chosen delegation of the SER with the documents required for each case.

Documents necessary to obtain the passport for adults

The candidate must prove his nationality by presenting the original birth certificate or the naturalization letter (if applicable). One of the following that attests to the identity of the traveler: voter card from the National Electoral Institute (INE/IFE), professional license, professional title, letter of intern, National Military Service card released; any of them in original and copy.

Documents for passport application in minors

This type of passport is issued with the presence of the parents or those who exercise parental authority over the minor; they will have to come with some official identification document. The nationality of the child must be verified by means of the original birth certificate or the copy and original letter of naturalization, if necessary. As proof of identity, it will suffice to present a current school credential in original and copy or a certificate or proof of studies issued by the Ministry of Public Education.

For people over sixty and people with disabilities

This passport application is addressed to any person who requires a third party to carry out the process. The candidate (or relative of the applicant) will have to prove the nationality of the traveler through the original of the birth certificate or the original and a copy of the naturalization letter. The file must include an original and a copy of an official identification, such as the voter card, ID or professional title, ID of the National Institute for Adults (INAPAM), ID for retirees or pensioners or the ID for people with disabilities.

Passport valid for three years: 1,585 pesos or 795*

Passport valid for six years: 2,155 pesos or 1,075*

Passport valid for ten years: 3,780 pesos or 1,890*
