Marcus Stroman is excited to be able to put on the Puerto Rico jersey: “I am going to go with an open heart and mind”

The pitcher marcus stroman spoke forcefully with one of the main media outlets in Chicago about his intentions to wear the Puerto Rico jersey in the coming World Baseball Classic.

The controversial pitcher with Puerto Rican roots spoke about the desire to represent the country where his mother was born and how he feels identified with the passion with which several of the main athletes of the Puerto Rican Ninth play baseball.

Stroman, who represented the United States in the 2017 World Classic, spoke with the Chicago Tribune on Wednesday and reiterated that his desire is to be on the Puerto Rican side in the event to be held in March 2023.

“My mom is my heart. She is my blood,” Stroman told the Tribune, referring to the island-born Adlin.

“So to have the opportunity to play for both countries is very special to me. My family is excited, we all are. It’s just another chance to continue adding things to my resume.”

Stroman, who belongs to the Chicago Cubs, aroused great controversy in Puerto Rico in 2017 when he initially stated that he would be wearing the Puerto Rican uniform but at the last moment he decided on the United States.

On that occasion, through a message on the social network Twitter, he apologized to his mother for changing his decision. Her mother was eager for her son to represent Puerto Rico.

This unleashed a barrage of insulting messages toward the fiery New York-born pitcher and his own mother, Stroman told the Chicago daily.

“I have never had feelings of resentment. I am not one of those people who live in the past although I know that many people do. So I’m going with an open heart and mind. I’m excited. I do not stay with resentment, ”she expressed.

“I am really excited to compete for Puerto Rico.”

Stroman pitched twice against Puerto Rico. He gave in first in the championship round and then in the final match where he guided the United States to the World Classic title.

The Most Valuable Player was chosen.

“I am one of those people who gets carried away by my lame… and with my intuition. It’s wonderful that he can play for both countries. I really represent both cultures,” she insisted.
