Lawyers Criticize Trump Election Investigation in Georgia

Lawyers for former US President Donald Trump criticized the Fulton County, Georgia investigation into possible election meddling after an interview with the foreman of a special jury became public this week.

Emily Kohrs spoke for the first time in an interview published Tuesday by the AP, where she described some of what happened behind closed doors with the jury, including the behavior of some witnesses, how prosecutors interacted with witnesses and how some witnesses invoked their right to not to answer certain questions.

Trump’s lawyers, Drew Findling and Jennifer Little, said that despite having concerns about the panel’s proceedings from the start, they remained silent out of respect for the process, but noted that the Kohrs revelations this week forced them to speak out. .

“The end product is that the reliability of anything that happened there is completely flawed and in question,” Findling told the AP on Wednesday. She added that she “had no grudges for the 30-year-old forewoman” who was part of “a failed system.”

“She is the product of a circus posing as a special purpose grand jury,” he said.

Findling and Little said they were aware of all the legal issues in the case and are keeping their options open.

The special grand jury was formed at the request of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is investigating whether Trump and his Republican allies committed any wrongdoing in trying to overturn their narrow 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden in Georgia.

The panel does not have the power to indict, but it could make recommendations to Willis, a Democrat who could ultimately decide whether to seek indictments from a regular jury.
