Lavrov visits Cuba after his lightning trip to Nicaragua

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, visits Cuba where he meets on Thursday with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, to promote cooperation and friendship ties between the two countries.

Ortega and Lavrov minimized the impact of US sanctions

He does so after a lightning visit to Nicaragua, where he met with President Daniel Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo. Ortega and Lavrov downplayed the impact of US sanctions. The Russian Foreign Minister thanked Nicaragua for its support for Russia to link up with Latin American integration organizations.

“Multipolarity is the imperative of these times, it is an objective historical process. It cannot be stopped. Even if the collective West, united under the umbrella of American exceptionalism, tries,” said Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister.

Russia and Nicaragua signed an agreement on the peaceful use of atomic energy in March

Russia is an important ally of Nicaragua, to which it supplies wheat. In addition, it has supplied buses for public transportation, cars for taxis, and Sputnik vaccines against COVID-19.

Russia is one of Cuba’s top ten trading partners

In Cuba, a meeting between Lavrov and President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who has just begun his second and last five-year term, is not ruled out. Cuba is the last point of Lavrov’s tour in Latin America after visiting Brazil, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
