Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid met this Wednesday in Amman, the capital of the day, with King Abdullah II of Jordan with the aim of promoting stability in the region after the visit of US President Joe Biden to the Middle East and a slight rapprochement with the Palestinian Authority.

“Today I met with King Abdullah II of Jordan at his palace in Amman. The meeting was warm and long and we discussed the many opportunities to add additional content to the peace agreement, to enhance the long-standing relationship between the nations and to strengthen common interests between countries,” explained the Israeli prime minister on his official Twitter profile.

During the meeting, King Abdullah II of Jordan underlined the need to achieve “a just, comprehensive and lasting peace based on a two-state solution”, as well as to promote “security, stability and regional development, as reported by the petra news agency

Likewise, from the Israeli side they have mentioned that the Israeli Prime Minister and King Abdullah II have discussed issues of food security, agriculture and transport, as reported by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

This meeting takes place within the framework of a slight rapprochement between the parties after the Israeli prime minister held a telephone conversation with the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, in early July, which marked the first contact between leaders of both territories in five years.

Abbas also met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in the Jordanian capital Amman on Sunday to discuss “the Palestinian problem,” a meeting in which they also discussed US President Joe Biden’s recent visit to the Middle East.

In the midst of these diplomatic contacts between leaders of the region, the president of the Palestinian Authority held a meeting on Wednesday with the Russian envoy for the peace process, Vladimir Karpovich Safronkov, who is currently visiting the city of Ramallah.

During their meeting, Abbas informed Safronkov about the latest developments in the Palestinian arena and discussed issues to strengthen bilateral relations between the Palestinian side and Russia, as reported by the WAFA news agency.
