Kuwait’s Ministry of Health has confirmed the first case of cholera in the country, according to a statement published by the official KUNA news agency.

The Ministry identifies the case as a citizen “who had returned from a neighboring country”, without giving further details in this regard, and who suffered “symptoms of the disease”.

The health authorities have ruled out in this same note the possibility of a cholera outbreak in the country, such as those that are occurring in Lebanon and Syria or Iraq, the latter country bordering Kuwait.

Still, they call “to take precautions and precautions for citizens and residents, and make sure to avoid unsafe food and water sources.”

The Syrian authorities have confirmed 1,492 cases of cholera to date, including 49 deaths, according to the latest balance published by the Syrian Ministry of Health on Facebook.

However, it is feared that the figure is much higher, due to the rapid spread of the disease and the fact that several parts of the country are beyond the control of the authorities.

In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) includes in its latest situation report, dated November 14, that so far 35,569 alleged cases of cholera have been registered, with 1,491 confirmed infections and 92 deaths.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health, for its part, has confirmed this Saturday five new cases of cholera in the country for a total of 600 affected and 20 deaths since the declaration, on October 5, of the first case in the north of the country. .

On Friday, 15,549 people were vaccinated, bringing the total number to 391,666 people since the launch on November 12 of a three-week inoculation campaign, according to data collected by ‘L’Orient le Jour’.
