The Prime Minister of Israel, Yair Lapid, has arrived this Sunday in the German capital, Berlin, for a visit in which he is accompanied by several Holocaust survivors.

“When we got off the plane and stepped onto German soil, we were welcomed by a German military honor guard,” the Israeli prime minister said on Sunday night.

Lapid has deemed this trip a victory. “This is his victory, mine as the son of a Holocaust survivor and ours as a people and a nation. We will never forget it,” he assured.

This Monday Lapid has scheduled meetings with the German president, Frank Walter Steinmeir, and with the country’s chancellor, Olaf Scholz.

The objective of the visit is to coordinate positions on the nuclear issue and to finalize a document on strategic, economic and security cooperation, with the aim of having it signed in Berlin, said the Israeli politician before leaving for Europe.

Germany is one of the countries working to revive the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, which the United States unilaterally left in 2018. However, Israel wants to avoid such a deal.
