MADRID, July 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Israeli Defense Minister Benjamin Gantz warned Israelis on Tuesday against any involvement in an initiative scheduled for Wednesday to try to establish three new settlements in the West Bank, promoted by the Nachala Settlement Movement and which could count on the participation of hundreds of activists.

Gantz’s office has revealed that Gantz was informed of the plans on Monday, adding that the minister has instructed “to send a clear message to Israeli citizens who intend to participate … that these are illegal activities that Israeli forces of security will prevent”.

Thus, he stressed that “along with the continued construction and strengthening of legal settlements,” there will be a “strict stance” against plans to create “illegal” settlements. International Law considers all settlements illegal, although Israel differentiates between those to which it has given permission and those to which it has not.

For their part, the Israeli Police and Army have also ruled on the initiative and have stressed that the lifting of settlements without permission is illegal, for which they have indicated that the security forces will act to prevent “any illegal action”, according to The Israeli newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’ has reported.

In their statement, they have emphasized that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Police and the Border Police are preparing for the activities of the Nachala Settlement Movement “on roads and locations in Judea and Samaria –name Biblical West Bank — to protect security, law and order.

For its part, the aforementioned movement has criticized Gantz for allowing the “illegal” construction of buildings by Palestinians in Area C of the West Bank. “We hope that the Minister of Defense and the Government of Israel will announce a change in policy today and allow the Jewish people to fulfill their historical and eternal obligation to build in the Land of Israel,” he noted.

The Peace Now organization has also called on its activists to confront the operations of the Nachala Settlement Movement to prevent the erection of new settlements. “The establishment of new terrorist settlements, accompanied by a public campaign and backed by the messianic right, is a well-planned attack on Israel’s interests,” he denounced.

In this sense, Peace Now has warned that “violence by settlers will automatically derive from these settlements against soldiers, left-wing activists and Palestinians, which will lead to the expropriation of Palestinian land.” “We won’t let this happen,” she has settled herself.
