The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mostafa al Kazemi, has inaugurated on Wednesday the reconstruction works of the Mosul International Airport, in northern Iraq, five years after it was destroyed during the fighting to expel the Islamic State terrorist group from the city. .

The north of the city has been reduced to ruins since July 2017, when Iraqi forces regained control of the area with the support of the US-led international coalition.

The airport, which was badly damaged during the fighting, has been out of service since militants seized Mosul and surrounding areas in 2014, according to reports from the Iraqi news agency INA.

Al Kazemi has pointed out during a speech that the airport will offer opportunities for the area to prosper and has announced that there are major reconstruction plans for the entire city.
