I have tried the Honor mobile that is worth more than the iPhone, Magic 5 Pro: these are the 4 things that have caught my attention

The mobile flagships of 2023 are being unveiled in recent days and many are gawking at their price, above 1,000 euros. The Chinese Honor has been the last brand to launch its most premium smartphone of the year, Magic 5 Pro, which is no exception.

The new Honor Magic 5 Pro has been presented with great fanfare during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, where the Asian brand has confirmed that it will have a price of 1,199 euros for its unique version of 12 GB of RAM plus 512 GB of storage.

Is he Most expensive normal format mobile in the brand’s historybut it is not an exception at this time in the market, since Xiaomi recently presented its new Xiaomi 13 Pro, which worth 1,399 euros (12 + 256 GB) and it is also the most expensive so far for this Chinese brand.

With these prices, both devices are above the standard version of the iPhone 14 (1,009 euros in Spain), although slightly cheaper than the iPhone 14 Pro (part of 1,319 euros).

I have been able to test the Honor Magic 5 Pro during MWC 2023 and I will tell you what have been the 4 things that have most attracted my attention about the device beyond its price.

Honor says it is inspired by Gaudí’s architecture. I haven’t quite seen it, but it’s clear that it’s full of curves.

Taking advantage of the fact that it is presented in Barcelona, Honor says that its new Magic 5 Pro is inspired by the modernist style of Antonio Gaudí, architect of the Sagrada Familia and a good part of the best-known monuments of the city of Barcelona.

Gaudí used to say that straight lines were human and curves were from God, so his buildings were full of curved elements, even elements such as railings, towers and columns that had traditionally been straight, to resemble nature more.

Does the Honor Magic 5 Pro manage to reflect this? I personally don’t think so. It is true that there are many curves in Honor Magic 5 Pro: on the edges of its screen, on the back and on its circular rear camera, but none are really new, and the only change compared to last year is that the module is from color of the back and this is unibody.

Honor Magic 5 Pro wants to have the most powerful camera on the market and it does not lack arguments at the hardware level

The new flagship of Honor follows the current of turning its camera into one of its greatest attractions. Regarding the hardware, it achieves this thanks to its rear camera with 3 sensors of 50 megapixels each: angular, ultra wide-angle and telephoto, which are accompanied by a time-of-flight (TOF) sensor.

Although there have already been phones with 3 high-resolution sensors –for example, the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra from a couple of years ago–, it is not common for all image sensors to have the same quality as the main rear camera, and this helps to better consistency in the resolution of shots, regardless of the situation.

In the same way, the Chinese brand maintains the 100x (100x) zoom as one of the most important features of Honor Magic 5 Pro, as it already happened last year with its predecessor.

To assess each image mode in more detail, you will have to wait until we can test it calmly in the reviews later.

The screen is less curved than last year and it is surprising that it keeps the perforated camera with 2 sensors

Honor Magic 5 Pro has a screen to match its commitment to reach the highest possible range, with 6.81 inches, AMOLED, with 120 hertz of refresh rate and that greatly improves its maximum brightness, which goes from 1,000 to 1,800 nits maximum.

This panel maintains the curved edges of last year, but this time Honor has opted for a less pronounced curve than in the hand, it seemed to me that it facilitates the grip more and it makes the device seem more solid, although at times heavier too.

Honor has taken Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) dimming technology to another level, and Honor Magic 5 Pro reaches 2,160 hertz for the first timewhich improves visual protection after days of use.

The battery has a slight improvement compared to the current average and reaches 5,100 mAh

As for the battery, Honor has also wanted its Magic 5 Pro to be special and has provided its terminal with a 5,100mAh capacityslightly above the market standard of 5,000 mAh.

Although we will have to wait for the review to see if this small increase in capacity translates into greater autonomy, it is appreciated that Honor is trying to push the physical capacity of the battery a little beyond its current limits, because it has the potential to that other brands also improve.

Of course, the 66 watt wired fast charging and 50 watts wirelessly leaves me cold on paper, because last year, Magic 4 Pro boasted a faster charge, 100 watts, much faster, although less capable.
