The former negotiator of the Peace Agreement between the Colombian Government and the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Humberto de la Calle, has criticized the possible participation of Luciano Marin Arango, alias ‘Ivan Marquez’, former ‘number two’ of the organization, in the new peace process with the National Liberation Army (ELN).

According to De la Calle, today a senator, ‘Ivan Marquez’ “already had his chance” and now for those who were members of the FARC “the path that remains is submission,” reports the Colombian radio station RCN Radio.

“What is it that can be negotiated with Mr. Marquez and the new Marquetalia that has not been negotiated in Havana?” De la Calle questioned, alluding to the peace process held in 2015 with the FARC.

Likewise, De la Calle has put on the table the possibility that ‘Ivan Marquez’ “again breaches” the agreement and “breaks his word” as he did after signing the agreements with the extinct guerrilla.

The Colombian authorities have previously reported that ‘Ivan Marquez’ would be “convalescing” and “wounded” after an operation against him and that he would now be willing to talk within the framework of the “total peace” agreement proposed by the president of Colombia, Gustav Petro.
