Enrique Lores has assured in a recent interview with the television channel CNBC who hopes that AI will radically change the personal computer industry and the direction of his own company.

“We think there is an opportunity to create a new category of computers that could significantly refresh the industry,” announces Lores.

AI is going to help us redefine what a PC isthe experiences that customers are going to be able to get are going to be very different, and we’re working with all the major software and semiconductor vendors to re-architecture a PC,” he adds.

As part of these plans, Lores has announced that HP is working on the development of a new specialized computer model to work with artificial intelligence and that you can create databases and analyze information in less time than before.

These new pieces of equipment, which are expected to reduce the need for data scientists to train new artificial intelligence models, could be launched on the market as early as 2024, according to Lores.

With this decision, HP seeks to reverse the negative trend that the PC market has been experiencing in the last 2 years, since computer sales have plummeted after the pandemic.

During the past year, PC sales down 16% around the world, according to data from analyst Canalys. This decline is far from subsiding, since in the first quarter of 2023 the market continued to fall by 33%.

HP is the second world brand in computer salesand in the first quarter it took control of a 22.2% market share, only one and a half points away from the leader, the Chinese Lenovo, despite a year-on-year drop of 24% in units sold.

Despite these data, the US company has announced a workforce adjustment at the international level and has plans to lay off between 4,000 and 6,000 people until 2025.
